Successfully Tasting Our CoffeesThere are many styles in which coffees are roasted and blended, thus requiring different methods of preparation to extract the optimum flavor. Below is a guideline to use when preparing the exquisitely crafted espresso and drip coffees offered by Endicott Coffee Roasters. The procedure used for drip coffee is consistent with all of our blends, roasts and single origin coffees. In addition, recommended extraction times are listed for each espresso blend offered. Following our recommendations will ensure your taste test will reveal why so many retailers have chosen Endicott Coffee to roast their complete line of coffees.
Brewing Drip Coffee: When brewing the finest blends and single origin coffees, the recommended measurement is two (s) heaping tablespoons of ground coffee per six (6) ounces of water. From here, you may adjust the measurement to your own taste preference. To ensure the flavor is at its best, always grind coffee just prior to brewing. In addition, it is best to brew coffee with high quality filtered or purified water to eliminate the possibility of flavor contaminants that unfiltered or unpurified water contains. Extracting Perfect Espresso: Each espresso blend we have engineered has a very narrow window in which an optimum shot extraction is produced. In addition to adhering to the recommended extraction times, it is equally important to extract espresso with clean components as well as at the correct water temperature. We recommend before brewing, the group used in tasting the sample is thoroughly cleaned with an espresso cleaner and is back-flushed until no soapy residue remains. More importantly, the water temperature should be calibrated to the corresponding temperature recommended for each blend below. Lastly, always remember to grind each dose just prior to extraction, and combine the shot(s) with milk or water within 8-10 seconds, to preserve aroma and flavor. |
